Hired by the owner and principle shareholder to join the team as an Interim Business Development Director to bring an entrepreneurial spirit to a young company which had a sophisticated IT infrastructure which included a SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and an Avaya internet telephone system, fulfillment operation in the Channel Islands, contact centre and accustomed to handling €70m in financial transactions for the business process outsourcing of contact lenses on behalf of Dollond & Aitchison Opticians. The business model developed involved more rapid growth compared to its existing plan and to fully exploit the infrastructure which had been acquired. Whilst networking with a host of potential strategic partners including Ernst & Young, KPMG & Deloitte’s and introduction was made by KPMG to Amazon; the global online retailer wanted to fulfill DVD’s from the Channel Islands to take advantage of the HMRC Low Value Consignment Relief (LVCR) scheme whereby products selling for less than £18 can be sold excluding VAT. After engaging with several of the Amazon team from Seattle, London & Dublin to explore what fulfillment issues the client wanted to address; Andrew as the lead commercial negotiator presented a solution to Amazon which involved the Indigo Lighthouse fulfillment team receiving orders directly from the Amazon online store which the IL team picked and packed in Jersey. The Indigo Lighthouse customer service team in Glasgow handled email and telephone enquiries on behalf of Amazon and processed the payment using the SAP ERP system.
