Summary:
ThinkWhere are an established, highly innovative Geographic Information Service company. Towards the end of 2017 they were looking towards the next stage of their growth, which would be driven by making their innovative map cloud products available to a broader target market. Having internally sprinted forward with the project and building an early stage prototype, the CEO sought support to validate the team’s own assumptions. A key objective was to seek investment in Q2 2018.

Prop B worked with the wider project team as a project squad, taking them through the early stages of Proposition Builder – Prop B’s own end-to-end agile innovation process. Using PB tools and techniques, the team challenged their own assumptions about the true target market and the needs of their buyers, as well as the end users. They then created several concept propositions for 3 different target markets that had been identified as the best opportunities.

Prop B tested those concept propositions, conducting a series of in-depth interviews with prospective buyers and sector experts. The feedback was an eye-opener for the team – their initial target audience didn’t actually need their proposed products.

As a result, a further set of interviews were undertaken, to identify the true needs of one specific sector/target market.


Outcomes:
Working with Prop B saved thinkWhere from investing time and resource on building new products that didn’t have a Value Proposition – i.e. that their target audience didn’t need and wouldn’t buy. It enabled the team to re-focus, starting the innovation process on the basis of understanding the true needs of clients and not just on their own internal assumptions. The project also embedded a new, agile innovation process with the team
